Why Osaka?

Osaka, live since 2026, is in KIX1 on Nakanoshima, the island in the middle of the Yodo river that Osaka's business district calls home. We joined JPNAP Osaka with NTT and IIJ, and the first test instance answered Tokyo at 6 ms — fast enough that the engineers filed it under 'expected' and the product team filed it under 'so why did we wait?'.

The site runs 0.26 Tbit/s of edge capacity at a 4 ms local median, with 13 ms to Seoul, 21 to Taipei and 78 to Sydney. It is western Japan one hop closer to Korea: Kansai users get a domestic rack without the Tokyo round trip, and the fleet gets a second Japanese grid, IX and failure domain for the price of one more rack.

Questions about Osaka

The two answers people actually ask about this site, then the five we give everywhere.

This site

Osaka or Tokyo for Japan?
Six milliseconds apart, so the answer is your users. Tokyo runs 0.54 Tbit/s on JPIX with every major carrier in the building — the densest peering in the country — and wins for nationwide services. Osaka on JPNAP wins when your users are in western Japan, or when shaving 6 ms is a product feature rather than a footnote. Same price; the map decides.
Why is Osaka a separate site if Tokyo is 6 ms away?
Because 6 ms is also about how far apart two failure domains should be. Osaka means a second Japanese grid, a second exchange and a second set of cable paths, which is what you want when the first one has an earthquake. The flat price makes that redundancy free, and the site's own numbers — 21 ms to Taipei and 78 ms to Sydney against Tokyo's 86 — give it reasons to exist beyond insurance.

Everywhere

Which region should I pick?
Measure, then read. Median RTT decides most cases: pick the site closest to the users you already have, then check the local law if that matters to your data. We do not charge a regional premium, so the decision is never financial.
Is the price the same in every location?
Yes. A Nano costs €1.90 per month in Frankfurt and in São Paulo. There is no regional pricing tier, no 'emerging market' discount and no 'premium location' markup to optimise around.
Can I move a server to another site later?
Take a snapshot, deploy the same image at the destination, restore, update the DNS. The console does not yet automate the migration end-to-end, but nothing about the price changes if you redeploy somewhere else.
Is DDoS protection included?
Standard volumetric filtering is always on and always free at every site. If you need application-layer scrubbing with custom rules, the Advanced tier costs €3.90 per month per server.
What IP addresses do I get?
Every server ships with one dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6, both announced from the site you chose. Additional IPv4s are €1.20 per month each, up to eight per server.

Payments from Japan

Orders from Japan are handled exactly like every other order: checkout in euros, payment in Bitcoin, Monero or any of twenty-four assets, and the server provisions on the first network confirmation. No card, no bank, no name that has to match one.
